Alternate Thespy® Qualifier
The primary way to qualify for Thespys is through a chapter qualifying event. EdTA conducts the Alternate Qualifier to help ensure that all Thespians have the opportunity to participate in the Thespys program.
You may be eligible to participate in this Alternate Qualifier if you are an officially inducted Thespian and meet the following criteria:
The Thespian’s assigned chapter does not conduct a Thespy qualifier.
The Thespian’s assigned chapter cancels its Thespy qualifier.
The Thespian does not have an assigned a chapter based on their school’s mailing address.
The Thespian's chapter does not follow the official guidelines set for Solo Acting in their qualifying event.
The Thespian wishes to qualify for the final round of adjudication in a different or additional category.
The Thespian’s chapter director gives written permission to EdTA for the Thespian to participate. All permissions should be sent to thespys@schooltheatre.org.
There are two steps to participating in the qualifier:
Register and pay the participation fee. Troupe directors must submit entries for all participating students along with payment by 5 p.m. ET April 12, 2024. Students may enter multiple categories, but only one entry will be accepted per category.
Submit digital entry materials. Carefully review the rules and requirements in the official Thespy program guide to avoid disqualification. Entries will be accepted from March 6 until 5 p.m. ET April 12, 2024. No late entries will be accepted.
Due to a delay in the adjudication process, results will now be released April 23, 2024. Thespians who earn overall Superior ratings advance to the final round of the International Thespian Excellence Awards, held during the 2024 International Thespian Festival in Bloomington, Indiana. Questions may be directed to thespys@schooltheatre.org.

Please note that the Alternate Qualifier cannot be used as a "second chance" qualifier. If the Thespian participated in a qualifying event in their chapter and did not receive a Superior rating, or was declared inegligible by EdTA, they may not use the Alternate Qualifer as a second chance opportunity to qualify for the final round of adjudication at ITF.
